How will I be assessed?

Independent study is an essential part of our VTCT and Professional Vocational Qualifications and you will be required to complete both practical and theoretical assignments at home. Observation Assessments will take place onsite during the course and a Portfolio of Evidence will be completed. Competent performance of Observation outcomes must be demonstrated on a specified number of occasions.

Unit assessment methods:

Portfolio of Evidence, Written Assignments, Case Studies, Practical Elements/Final Assessments and Written Exams.

About This Course

The VTCT Level 3 Award in Healthy Eating and Wellbeing for the Complementary Therapy Client (QCF) is knowledge-based qualification aimed at complementary therapists.

The following mandatory units are included:

  • UV31303 Healthy eating and well being for the complementary therapy client

The aim of this unit is to develop your knowledge and understanding of providing general healthy eating advice to the complementary therapy client.

The main aim of this qualification is to enable you to gain the necessary theoretical skills in order support the general public through advice on Healthy Eating and Well-Being. You will develop related knowledge and understanding required to advise the client on Healthy Eating and Well-Being, in particular health and safety considerations, the role and sources of nutrients required for a balanced diet and to maintain good health, understanding of metabolism and the basic rules and guidelines to food labelling.

Furthermore, you will learn how to provide general information on healthy eating to include, consultation, evaluating the client’s eating habits, providing general information to maintain health and well-being, explaining the factors that should be considered when planning Healthy Eating for the client, physiological and psychological factors, economics, sociological and environmental factors, You will also develop knowledge about contraindications and when and when not to advise the client working within scope of practice and expertise and client care and communication which are essential to work and be successful in the Industry.

There will be opportunities for you to focus on the development of your wider skills in a Complementary Therapies setting such as communicating with clients, working with others and problem solving and opportunities for you to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for success in your everyday practice as a complementary therapist.

This qualification is approved and supported by Skills for Health, the sector skills council for health.

Units in this qualification have been mapped to the relevant NOS (where applicable).

This qualification is regulated on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

CPPD points: 20

Prerequisite: There are no formal prerequisite qualifications that you must have prior to undertaking this qualification. It is recommended that you have a level of general education comparable to GCSEs. You should be committed to fulfilling the Theory Elements. You must meet the required Guided Learning Hours (GLH) by working through the Theory Elements, taking part in online discussions, assessments and reviews with your tutor and assessor via our Virtual Learning Environment. Optional Interactive Practical sessions can be accessed by attending our centre.

Duration: This qualification can be completed in a minimum of 3 months, on average it takes 6 months to complete the theory elements.

Course Delivery: Theory elements are covered online in your own home, in your own time and at your own pace via self study using our Virtual Learning Environment. This qualification is perfectly suited to online delivery because the subject is wholly theoretical therefore the subject can be delivered and learning assessed online. You will be fully supported by your course tutor who’s role it is to help and guide you through the process from beginning to end. Both your tutor and assessor will ensure that you not only reach your goals but maintain industry and awarding body standards. You will also have access to our private Facebook group where you can communicate with other learners and graduates.

Although this qualification, as we have said is perfectly suited to online delivery the subject can be brought to life in a classroom envirnment which enhances the learning experience. Therefore Optional Interactive Classroom sessions can be accessed by attending 3 sessions at our centre every other Saturday for 3 hours from 10:30am with our tutor Tracy Kruup.

Virtual Learning Resource: Upon enrolment you will be able to login and access your course content. Simply progress through each section and lecture, complete all your written assignments and upload them to your VTCT e-portfolio. You will receive seperate login details for your VTCT e-portfolio 2 weeks after enrollment.

Upon completion you will be required to attend our Assessment centre here in Dukinfield, Greater Manchester to sit two external and invigilated multiple choice exam papers as your final assessment.

Upon completion of both practical and theory elements, assessments and written papers a VTCT Level 3 Award in Healthy Eating and Wellbeing for the Complementary Therapy Client (QCF) will be awarded.
