6 new wellness sessions

Pro Touch Awareness Month

October is Pro Touch Awareness month, an event aimed at raising awareness of the benefits of hands-on therapies, especially massage and the importance of human touch and connection.

As a Pro-Touch Ambassador, I’ve taken a pledge to educate about the incredible benefits of hands-on therapies, positive therapeutic touch and human connection. To celebrate Pro Touch Awareness Month we are launching 6 amazing wellness sessions available to book until the end of October at a reduced cost.

Autumn is the perfect season and time to reflect on your year so far and finish it off right, by choosing healthy habits. These habits are not just for your physical health, but mental, emotional and spiritual health and well-being too. Build a healthy habits of booking a regular wellness session this Autumn.

The Benefits of Positive Touch

Re-introducing touch and human connection has never been so important after the last couple of years and the global pandemic. Restrictions meant that we were unable to meet up face to face, instead connecting remotely, unable to hug, shake or hold hands. Therapists were unable to see clients and deliver vital positive and therapeutic touch therapies at a time when they were badly needed. We have all been touch starved which has no doubt lead to increased mental health issues, stress, anxiety, health concerns, relationship problems and much more.

Many studies show that both human touch and snuggling with our fur babies can boost our overall health and wellbeing, help us lose weight, strengthen our immune system, improve our sleep, elevate our mood, stave off illness and soothe us. It’s been shown that touch stimulates the release of oxytocin, also known as the love or bonding hormone and other feel-good hormones, while reducing stress hormones.

Creating change in our lives using positive affirmations is an easy practice but can be very profound.

Episode 4 of our weekly podcast examines the power and importance of positive touch. In this episode I celebrate Pro Touch Awareness Month and discuss the topic of positive touch and human connection. I share my experience of both negative and positive touch as well as the benefits of positive touch and how you can re-introduce touch and human connection into your life.

Are You Too Busy For Wellness?

You wake up early and rush to get ready for work. You sit in the car and drive through heavy traffic to get to work. You arrive already stressed and tired. Once at work you sit at your desk all day. You drink too much coffee to stay awake. The air in the office is stale. You feel sleepy and irritable.

You leave the office at the end of the day for the long commute through more busy traffic and many other stressed, tired drivers, all anxious to get home. Too tired to cook, you order a takeaway, or eat out. You barely have a chance to unwind and then you must fall back into bed. You wake up the next morning having had a bad night, only to have to repeat the routine all over again.

Does any of this sound familiar? Does your health suffer as a result? Of course it does. Even sitting on a daily basis for long periods affects our posture and can cause aches and pains we would not have with a more active lifestyle.

Using Touch Therapies And Massage For Wellness

Touch therapies including massage can have far-reaching effects on your overall health and general well-being and can be a valuable tool in your self-care regime. Regular sessions can increase your quality of life by enhancing your mood, reducing stress and tension and alleviating an array of physical symptoms.

Massage typically uses oil on bare skin and long sweeping, or circular, and rhythmical strokes that induce a sense of relaxation, peace, and calm. Aromatherapy massage uses oils blended with essential plant oils whose properties are known to have medicinal qualities. The beneficial molecules get absorbed into the bloodstream via the skin and aid in healing.

An essential oil is a natural oil that is extracted from a single species of plant, whether a flower, a tree or otherwise, and the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA) defines aromatherapy as "the therapeutic application or the medicinal use of aromatic substances (essential oils) for holistic healing."

The essential oil of a plant is found in its root, stem, leaves, flowers, or fruits. Although they are called oils, most essential oils don’t actually have an oily feel to them at all. They are described as oils because they contain oil-soluble chemicals – some of them contain up to 200. The complex chemistry of these essential oils is what makes them so valuable – and so helpful for healing and therapeutic use.

Reflexology is an ancient form of foot massage. Points on the feet are said to relate to various parts of the body and are pressed and massaged to bring about healing in the related body part.

Reiki is an ancient art of healing by touch using universal life force energy and promotes natural healing on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.

Each of our new wellness sessions incorporates some of these elements of positive touch modalities to facilitate healing and promote wellness.
